SMO Gold Launches New Foundation
In its inaugural year, the SMO Foundation will focus on supporting two organizations in West Africa and one in South America.

Gold from SMO member mines is the first transparent and traceable gold that has full chain of custody and is fully audited, according to the company.
The newly established SMO Foundation is dedicated to uplifting communities and protecting environments linked to gold mining worldwide, the company said.
Its objectives are to elevate environmental conservation, social equity, and healthcare access in these areas, according to the SMO website.
In its inaugural year, the foundation has partnered with three organizations to deliver “life-changing projects” in mining regions.
These include Critical Care International, which provides healthcare in rural Senegal, focusing on maternal and child health through community-based screening, targeted interventions, and health education; the International Union for Conservation of Nature, which supports forest rehabilitation in Suriname by restoring abandoned artisanal mine sites and helping reverse biodiversity loss and deforestation; and Leadership for Conservation in Africa, which assists in the protection and restoration of Taï National Park in Côte d’Ivoire by combining science-led conservation with sustainable tourism.
The company launched the foundation last month during the SMO Golden Gala at the Natural History Museum in London.
The event raised more than $250,000.
SMO said the funds will directly fuel the foundation’s work and support its charity partners.
Individuals, organizations, and businesses can also donate directly to the SMO Foundation via the SMO website.
