Caratwise Launches, Names Former Signet Exec CEO
The new smart design software allows jewelers to configure, price, and confirm a custom engagement ring in real time for in-store customers.

Caratwise allows retailers to digitally build and quote custom engagement rings while a customer is in the store. It is vertically integrated from the sales floor to the manufacturer.
The software generates realistic 3D images reflecting the design, as well as changes, in real time. There are on-model and close-up viewing options.
It instantly adjusts pricing for metal costs, diamond selection, and production variables, and it also provides firm delivery dates on the spot.
With this process, jewelers no longer have to call around to diamond suppliers and jewelry manufacturers before being able to quote a price and delivery date, the company said.
Caratwise is designed to address specific challenges that independent jewelers face, including margin compression, supply volatility, and growing consumer expectations for personalization.
It was developed in collaboration with experienced retailers and manufacturing partners to ensure that technology enhances, rather than replaces, the jeweler’s expertise, the company said.
Ultimately, it aims to provide local jewelers with the same speed and transparency offered by online retailers.
“Independent jewelers don’t need another tool,” said Berdugo.
“They need certainty. Caratwise gives them control over pricing, production, and delivery in one seamless workflow. When a jeweler can confirm a custom order with confidence at the counter, it transforms the sales experience.”
Berdugo joins the company after a decade-long tenure at Signet Jewelers, where he most recently served as chief operating officer of James Allen and Blue Nile, the company’s primary online jewelry retailers.
His appointment to Caratwise reflects a shift from leading platforms that challenge independent jewelers to heading a company that is building products to strengthen brick-and-mortar retailers, said the company.
Caratwise is currently onboarding select independent retailers across the United States and will be exhibiting at JCK, with a broader expansion planned for later in 2026.
