Largest Collection of Jean Schlumberger Jewels Headed to Fla.
Socialite Bunny Mellon’s collection will be on view at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg this week.

St. Petersburg, Fla.—The most expansive collection of the work of famed jewelry designer Jean Schlumberger is migrating south to Florida for the winter.
A two-part exhibition dedicated to the work of the longtime Tiffany & Co. head designer will present some of his works and evidence of the design process behind them at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Florida, beginning Dec. 15.
Bequeathed to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in 2014 upon her death, Mellon’s collection is said to be the largest of Schlumberger’s pieces in the world, with many of the items created just for Mellon. “Jewels of the Imagination” marks the first time the collection has travelled.
Accompanying the Mellon collection is the second part of the exhibition, called “Drawn to Beauty,” which will delve into Schlumberger’s design process, highlighting sketches, photographs, the designer’s personal items and never-before-seen jewels, culled from the Tiffany & Co. archive and various personal collections.
Visitors will have a chance to revere both Schlumberger’s work and the creativity and imagination that formed them, making the designer a favorite of women like Gloria Vanderbilt, Jacqueline Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn and Diana Vreeland.
“Jewels of the Imagination” and “Drawn to Beauty” will run through March 15 at the MFA St. Petersburg.
