Monaco--The fifth edition of Only Watch, Sept. 28 at the Hermitage Hotel in Monaco , totaled about $6.9 million, an “unprecedented” amount for the charity event.
Only Watch is a biennial auction held in Monaco to raise money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. Timepiece auctioneer Antiquorum helps to organize the event and conducts the auction.
The top lot of the evening was a Ref. 5004T made by Patek Philippe for Only Watch. The timepiece sold for about $4.1 million, the highest price ever attained for a modern wristwatch.
Overall, it was the most successful Only Watch event to date and, in addition to the timepieces, included 14 vintage bottles of champagne from Lanson.
Antiquorum, the Association Monegasque Contre les Myopathies (Monaco Association against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, also known as AMM) and the Monaco Yacht Show were the sponsors of the event, with a total of 33 brands making timepieces to be put up on the auction block.
They were Backes & Strauss, Bell & Ross, Blancpain, Breguet, Chanel, Chopard, Chronoswiss, Christophe Claret, Corum, Cyrus, deLaCour, De Bethune, DeWitt, Frédérique Constant, Girard Perregaux, Harry Winston, Hublot, Ikepod, Jaquet Droz, Julien Coudray, Laurent Ferrier, Louis Vuitton, Maurice Lacroix, Montblanc, Patek Philippe, Piaget, Richard Mille, Roger Dubuis, Armin Strom, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin, Van Cleef & Arpels and Zenith.
“Only Watch is a very special project that implies an incredible cooperation based on free will and contributions made with a benevolent state of mind. It’s all about a group of people united for research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, united to give hope,” said Luc Pettavino, AMM president and founder of Only Watch. “I want to thank HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, the watch manufacturers, Antiquorum and the Monaco Yacht Show for co-organizing the event with (AMM) and all partners, philanthropists, collectors, media, individuals the world over for their phenomenal support.”
