New York—The Diamond Empowerment Fund has announced the recipients of its 2019 Diamonds Do Good Awards, which will be presented in Las Vegas on May 30.
Alrosa will receive the Community Stewardship Award and the Luxury Jewelers Resource Group will receive the Community Building Award.
DEF said its is honoring Alrosa, the largest diamond producer by carat weight, for being a “steward” of its community, noting that the miner makes community responsibility a company pillar and goes beyond providing necessary infrastructure for workers and their families.
This includes dedicating 3 percent of revenue each year to social and economic development across the region with projects that encompass education, healthcare, rehabilitation, housing, culture and sports activities for the people of Yakutia in Russia.
Established in 2005, Luxury Jewelers Resource Group is a consortium of 12 independent family-owned jewelry retailers from 20 states—Bachendorf’s, Bruce G. Weber, Diamond Cellar, Hamilton Jewelers, Hyde Park Jewelers, Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, London Jewelers, Lux Bond & Green, Mann’s Jewelers, Reis-Nichols Jewelers, Tapper’s Diamond & Fine Jewelry and Tivol.
Members “hold themselves to the highest standards and remain committed to maintaining the integrity of their diamonds,” DEF said, and believe in building and supporting their communities, from empowering young girls through organizations to Girl’s Inc. to supporting women’s shelters, the homeless, cultural arts and education initiatives.
