San Diego, Calif.--In response to the growing presence of lab-grown diamonds in the trade, the Accredited Gemologists Association is holding a half-day conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, May 28 to help people at all points along the supply pipeline understand the stones.
The session will be moderated by Gary Roskin, GG, FGA, and host of the Roskin Gem News Report.
Panelists will include Tom Chatham of Chatham Created Gems; James Shigley, distinguished research fellow at GIA’s gemological research laboratory; Thomas Hainschwang, director of the Lichtenstein Gemological Laboratory; and Alex Grizenko of Lucent Diamonds, among others.
The conference will include presentations and a town-hall style moderated discussion, addressing such topics as detection, market perceptions and pricing of synthetic diamonds from producer to retailer.
There also will be a hands-on session that will allow attendees the opportunity to handle and become familiar with gem-quality lab-grown diamonds.
Registration is $105 for AGA and Gem-A members and $130 for non-members. The program is scheduled to take place at the Westin Las Vegas on Thursday, May 28 from 1 to 5 p.m. A cocktail reception will follow.
