Milan--CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, will hold its 2015 annual congress in Salvador, Brazil from May 4 to 6, with pre-congress meetings to take place the two days prior.
The Instituto Brasileiro de Gemas e Metais Preciosos (IBGM) will host the event in cooperation with the local jewelry association, Associação Bahiana dos Produtores e Comerciantes de Gemas, Jóias, Metais Preciosos e Afins.
The congress will take place at the Sheraton de Bahia Hotel in Salvador, located in the city’s downtown area near the historic city center called Pelourinho, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its Portuguese colonial architecture and monuments dating back to the 17th century.
“With the eyes of the world on Brazil today, it is most important that CIBJO hold its first-ever Latin American Congress in this vibrant nation,” said CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri. “As the largest country in a regional market worth more than $8 billion, I am sure that our industry will welcome the opportunity to learn more about what Brazil and Latin America offer. It promises to be an unforgettable event.”
CIBJO’s annual congresses serve as the official venue for the meeting of the CIBJO assembly of delegates, gathering members of national jewelry and gemstone associations from more than 40 countries, as well as representatives from many of the industry’s most important commercial bodies.
It also is a forum for CIBJO’s professional commissions, and the venue at which the Diamond, Coloured Stones, Pearl, Precious Metals and Gemmological Blue Books are discussed and updated.
