There Will Be 2 Greenland Rubies Up for Grabs in Vegas
Mining company Greenland Ruby is holding a contest at JCK Las Vegas in which attendees guess the weight of rubies frozen in ice.

Las Vegas--Greenland Ruby is giving away two gems to Las Vegas attendees who can guess their carat weights.
The company will have a presence at the upcoming JCK Las Vegas show. Located at Booth L210--at the top of the escalator near the Luxury show entrance--Greenland Ruby will display a mini “iceberg,” in which two cut and polished Greenlandic rubies have been frozen.
On Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2, visitors will be able to guess the carat weight of the rubies for a chance to win the two gems--one the first day of the contest and the other on the second day of the contest.
They also will have the opportunity to take selfies in woolly hats with the “icebergs” and post them, along with their carat weight guesses, on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtags #greenlandrubyreveal, #greenlandruby, #notyourgrandmothersruby and #responsiblerubies.
On either day of the contest at 5 p.m., Greenland Ruby will weigh one of the two stones and announce the actual carat weight and winner via its social media channels.
The person with the closest guess for each wins the ruby.
Greenland Ruby mines its gems at a remote site in Aappaluttoq, Greenland, 155 miles south of Nuuk, Greenland’s capital.
The rubies and pink sapphires are embedded in corundum-bearing rock that geologists believe is in the oldest rock formation on earth, the company said. The output is processed at a state-of-the-art cleaning and sorting operation adjacent to the mine.
The Greenland corundum varies in color from deep and vibrant reds classified as “pigeon's blood’ to the lighter shades of pink, classified as pink sapphire.
Each gem from Greenland Ruby comes with a certificate of origin authorized and issued by the Government of Greenland, guaranteeing they are mined in an environmentally responsible way, and are cut and polished adhering to ethical, social, human rights and environmental laws and responsible practices, it said.
