NYJDI to Host Fashion Photographer for Workshop
Janusz Kawa, whose work has appeared in Vogue, will lead a two-day workshop on jewelry photography in March.

New York--Anyone who takes pictures of jewelry can attest to the trickiness of the subject.
Now, the New York Jewelry Design Institute is hosting a two-day workshop in March specifically aimed at jewelry designers who want to up their photo know-how.
Fashion photographer Janusz Kawa, whose work has appeared in publications like French Vogue, Australian Vogue, GQ, Cosmopolitan, The New York Times Magazine and Interview, will lead “Photography for Jewelry,” to be held on March 25 and 26.
Kawa will lead participants in a hands-on environment, teaching them how to shoot their jewelry and find the proper light to represent their designs. He will also provide instruction on the editing process, so that students are able to capture jewelry from photograph to final finished image.
Participants will bring their own jewelry, camera and laptop to the immersive workshop.
“It is important to learn photography specifically for designers because to shoot their jewelry piece professionally, it might cost them the price of the piece itself,” Kawa explained. “Jewelry needs to be retouched and fined tuned in Photoshop. A designer might not be able to afford a professional photographer specializing in jewelry. A designer may need to update their website frequently, and it’s to their advantage to be able to update their portfolio as they finish their pieces.”
Then, on April 9, the NYJDI also will host a workshop called “Sketching & Watercolor Effects with Photoshop,” taught by illustrator and designer Martinu Schneegass.
Schneegass will teach students how to sketch and design digitally in Photoshop, through the programs’ various effects and filters.
Participants will leave the workshop with advanced editing skills.
Kawa’s “Photography for Jewelry” workshop and Schneegass’ “Sketching & Watercolor Effects with Photoshop” will be held at NYDJI’s Diamond District campus in New York City.
