See the Men’s Jewelry That Ruled the Oscars Red Carpet

Plus, the best ladies’ jewelry looks from the 94th annual Academy Awards.

There was an undeniable male energy at the 94th annual Academy Awards, held Sunday in Hollywood.
 
The most obvious embodiment of yang energy was the unexpected on-stage physical assault, but the most intriguing examples were more a combination of yin-and-yang style. 
 
Think ladies in outfits with a traditional masculine bent and ultra-glamorous jewelry styling. Or, men donning jewelry ranging from maximal to minimal that felt across-the-board modern and fresh. 
 
A departure from traditional red-carpet glamour made it so much more interesting to watch for today’s jewelry lovers, and more reflective of contemporary personal styles that don’t adhere to traditional gender stereotypes. 
 
Scroll through to see the jewelry moments that packed a metaphorical punch at this year’s Oscars, which are, frankly, the only kind of punches we want to see outside of a UFC octagon.

Timothée Chalamet is setting the bar for fashion in Hollywood, constantly taking risks and having fun with his personal style.
 
He was the best dressed celeb at the Oscars of any gender in his sequined black Louis Vuitton suit and array of Cartier jewelry.
 
His shirtless ensemble was daring, but not so unusual when you consider women’s red-carpet fashion and its array of plunging necklines over the years. 
 
As with the ladies, a bare neck is the perfect canvas for jewelry. His Panthere de Cartier necklace and “Geometry & Contrast” necklace were ideal artworks to display, both in 18-karat white gold and diamonds, and the former with emeralds and onyx too.

Australian actor Kodi Smit-McPhee, a nominee for “The Power of the Dog,” was a breakout red-carpet star in his powder blue Bottega Veneta suit. 
 
Tellingly, he has recognized Chalamet as his awards show style inspiration. The two share the same daring. 

Smit-McPhee’s bold look extended to his jewelry. He wore an array of Cartier 18-karat white gold and diamond jewels, most notably a high jewelry necklace and earring—yes, a single earring.

Actor Jay Ellis (HBO’s “Insecure,” the upcoming “Top Gun: Maverick”) delivered a rare dose of color with his ornate lapel pin. He donned a David Yurman emerald and diamond jewel on his classic black and white tuxedo by Dolce & Gabbana.
 
It was a more classic but not at all boring take on men’s jewelry. Ellis also wore a Movado watch.

One of pop culture’s most unusual pairings, the PDA-obsessed and betrothed Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian, are so in sync it’s no wonder they donned the same jewelry designer to the Oscars.
 
Barker had a winning look with his Lorraine Schwartz white diamond sculptural brooch worn on the lapel of his all-black ensemble by Maison Margiela. Though it was his first time at the Oscars, he looked like he’s been doing it his entire career.
 
Fiancée Kardashian had fabulous Lorraine Schwartz earrings to coordinate, plus her engagement ring, also reportedly by the designer.

The night belonged to Cartier, with former Oscar winner Rami Malek accessorizing with the brand along with plenty of the best dressed. 
 
He accented a Prada suit with Cartier Clash pin in white gold with onyx, diamonds, and rhodium. 
 
He also wore a Cartier Tank Must watch in sterling silver, Love ring in 18-karat white gold with diamonds, and Santos de Cartier cufflinks in sterling silver with palladium finish and black lacquer.

Joe Jonas didn’t attend the Oscars, but his jewelry look at the Vanity Fair after party was so high level that it begged inclusion on this list. 
 
Jonas is a millennial, but his style is in line with Gen Z fashion icons like Chalamet. 
 
This look is one Chalamet easily would wear. It featured a multi-strand diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co., the ideal accent for Jonas’ sparkling Louis Vuitton suit and black nail polish.

Actor Troy Kotsur won a Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role in “CODA.” Only the second deaf actor to win an Oscar—the first was “CODA” co-star Marlee Matlin for “Children of a Lesser God” in 1986—Kotsur commemorated the big night with a sentimental jewel.
 
His gold lapel pin depicts the American Sign Language symbol for “I love you.” The custom piece was crafted by deaf civil rights attorney and designer Alexis Ander Kashar of RoseBYANDER.

Men were showing up and showing out in the jewelry department, but their more elaborate jewelry styling wasn’t the only trend of note.
 
Blurred sartorial gender lines went both ways, with plenty of women channeling menswear in their fashion and accessorizing those looks with killer jewels.

Kristen Stewart, nominated for “Spencer,” has long been a Chanel ambassador. She wore one of her signature looks—a tuxedo short suit—with modern windblown hair. Her overall demeanor was unfussy and in character with how she portrays herself when not playing famous icons. 
 
She let her jewelry provide the Oscar-appropriate amount of glamour, courtesy of a stunning y-necklace from Chanel. The Art Deco-inspired style was rendered in white gold with onyx, spinel, and diamonds.

Zendaya also opted for a feminine and modern spin on classic suiting, wearing a cropped white menswear-style shirt with silver sequin skirt.
 
A longtime Bulgari spokesperson, she topped off her Valentino look with a high jewelry Serpenti necklace, Serpenti Viper bracelets, and diamond rings. 
 
There were also plenty of actresses with traditionally feminine styles and glamorous jewels worth a second look, just as one would expect. 
 
Zoë Kravitz in Kwiat, Rachel Zegler in Tiffany, Nicole Kidman in Harry Winston, Jessica Chastain in Gucci fine jewelry, and Lady Gaga in Tiffany were all showstoppers.
