Fura Gems Notes ‘Remarkable’ Interest in Larger Rubies at Latest Sale
The auction, held in Bangkok, was 96 percent sold by lot, with nearly 411,000 carats of Mozambiquan rubies sold.
Fura Gems said strong pricing was achieved across categories at its latest rough ruby auction and noted a “remarkable” response to larger stones.
Dubai— Colored gemstone miner Fura Gems announced that its latest rough ruby auction was 96 percent sold by lot, with buyers showing particular interest in bigger rubies.
The rough rubies were extracted from Fura’s ruby mine in Mozambique.
At the sale, held Aug. 24-Sept. 1 in Bangkok, Fura Gems offered 121 lots totaling 411,371 carats.
Of those, 116 lots totaling 410,978 carats were sold.
The sale saw strong demand across product categories, the miner said.
A total of 66 customers participated in the auction, and 34 bidders were successful.
“We continue to see robust demand for responsibly sourced and fully traceable colored gemstones, and we are very pleased with the results of this auction,” Fura Chief Commercial Officer Rupak Sen said.
“Bidding was strong across the different categories presented, with particularly remarkable interest in our larger-size rubies. The response from the market reflects the growing recognition of the distinctive color, quality, and diversity of Fura’s Mozambican rubies.”
All gemstones sold by Fura are accompanied by a digital record on the Provenance Proof Blockchain, providing traceability to the mine of origin.

Launched by Swiss gem lab Gübelin in 2019, the Provenance Proof blockchain is a digital log on which individual gemstones or entire parcels can be entered.
The technology allows for a stone to be tracked from the source to the end consumer, with all operations from as early in the supply chain as possible securely recorded, stored, and shared to all participants, creating a record of its journey.
“We firmly believe that the future value of colored gemstones will be defined not only by their beauty and rarity, but increasingly by confidence in where they come from and how they are produced,” Sen said.
“Responsible mining and full traceability are therefore fundamental to the way Fura operates and to the standard we believe our industry must increasingly embrace.”
