Jewelry Academy hosting summer metalsmith program
The weeklong program at Creative Side Jewelry Academy is geared toward metalsmiths between the ages of 10 and 16 who want to learn jewelry-making skills.

Austin, Texas--Creative Side Jewelry Academy is opening their doors to young metalsmiths this summer, inviting them to attend a one-week session to focus on jewelry-making skills.
“Young Metalsmiths,” as the program is called, will invite participants to work with different tools to make jewelry, including the saw, torch and hammer, and a rolling mill to create texture. Geared toward 10- to 16-year-olds, each student will leave the weeklong program with at least five pieces of jewelry they personally handmade.
A total of three one-week sessions will be offered this summer.
Lindsay Hendricks, Young Metalsmiths instructor at the Austin-based Creative Side Jewelry Academy, said her goal is to “encourage individual and creative expression through the art of jewelry.” She said students creating jewelry also hone their hand-eye coordination, strengthen their artistic voice and develop knowledge about subjects including geometry, chemistry, economics and engineering.
The Young Metalsmiths program is slated for June 8 to 12, June 29 to July 3, and July 20 to 24. Additional information can be found by contacting the Creative Side Jewelry Academy at 512-799-0731 or by visiting CreativeSide.org.
