London--The Responsible Jewellery Council has named Ashish Deo as the organization’s new chief executive officer, effective Sept. 8.
Deo will be based in the RJC’s London office.
The organization’s previous CEO, Michael Rae, stepped down from the position at the end of 2013 to pursue interests closer to home in Melbourne, Australia. RJC Chief Operations Officer Catherine Sproule has been serving as the interim CEO since then.
Deo joins the RJC with years of experience working with leading international consumer and luxury brands, most recently serving as the commercial director at the Fairtrade Foundation.
With his previous work with major brands across the Asian, North American and European markets, he will bring strategic and commercial skills to the RJC as it focuses on Asia and extending its reach into other markets, the organization said.
The RJC also said it will play a leading role in ensuring that responsible sourcing practices are put into action for luxury and premium products such as fine jewelry and watches, especially as consumer expectations for it continue to increase.
In his role, Deo will help the RJC be a driver of best practices, as well as represent the industry in the international business community and with global institutions that are also focused on responsible business practices.
“The board of the RJC and I welcome the appointment of Ashish Deo, who will bring a depth of experience in strategic and geographical skills,” said RJC Chairman James Courage. “He will strongly complement the current management team to support membership growth and support services in all markets.”
