IGI now has reports in Spanish, Portuguese
Citing growth in the Hispanic and Latino markets for jewelry, the International Gemological Institute (IGI) announced the addition of Spanish-English and Portuguese-English diamond grading reports to its offerings.
New York--Citing growth in the Hispanic and Latino markets for jewelry, the International Gemological Institute (IGI) announced the addition of Spanish-English and Portuguese-English diamond grading reports to its offerings.
IGI said it is the only major worldwide gemological laboratory to have bilingual grading reports in Spanish and Portuguese specifically. The reports will contain the same information as the lab’s other diamond grading certificate: a full-page report, diamond diagram and details on the stone’s characteristics.
The IGI cited data from the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) that estimates the Hispanic market for jewelry totals $8 billion a year. In addition, Spanish-language cable network Univision led the ratings for primetime television in the month of July, which also speaks to the domestic growth of the Hispanic population.
Outside of the United States, IGI notes that despite a recent economic downturn, analysts expect the economy in Brazil, where Portuguese is the official language, to pick up in the coming years and consumer purchasing power to increase.
“Taking into account the current and impending jewelry market growth among Hispanics and Latinos, we saw an opportunity to provide an essential service,” said IGI President and CEO Jerry Ehrenwald. “We are thrilled to equip retailers and consumers alike with the necessary tools to understand their reports and the respective diamond quality.”
Established in 1975, IGI has 19 offices worldwide including in New York, Tel Aviv, Hong Kong, Mumbai and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Other language options for IGI reports are Chinese, French, Japanese and Hindi.
