127-Year-Old New Orleans Jeweler to Close
Adler’s Jewelry is set to close its two stores as 82-year-old owner Coleman E. Adler II retires.

Third-generation owner Coleman E. Adler II is retiring after 62 years in the jewelry business, according to the retailer’s website.
“Our family and staff have deep gratitude for generations of customer loyalty, friendship, and trust for 127 years,” the jeweler said in a statement.
The retailer is holding a retirement sale at its flagship New Orleans store, located at 722 Canal St., and its second location in Metairie at 2937 Veterans Blvd.
Traveling salesman Coleman E. Adler I opened the first Adler’s Jewelry on Royal Street in New Orleans in 1898.
The store relocated to Canal Street in 1902, and again to its current storefront in 1909.

Adler’s Jewelry opened a second location in Lakeside Mall in 1978, relocating that store to its current Metairie location in 2017.
In 1992, the jeweler opened a third store in Oakwood Mall, but it closed after damage from Hurricane Katrina and the fires that followed.
The original Canal Street store has survived two world wars, two pandemics, and several major hurricanes.
Current owner Coleman E. Adler II took the reins in 1975, marking the third generation to lead the company.
Adler’s four children have pursued careers outside of the jewelry industry, according to a report by Biz New Orleans.
“After much thoughtful consideration, I have made the decision to retire,” said Adler, now 82, in the local report.
“After 62 years in the business, I’m looking forward to enjoying time off. We are confident that now is the right time to move to the next chapter of our lives.”
