Lucara Recovers Nearly 37-Carat Blue Diamond
The “stunning” Type IIb stone was found via x-ray technology at its Karowe mine in Botswana.

The diamond is Type IIb.
It was recovered through x-ray transmission machines at Karowe from ore sourced from stockpile material.
Five stones weighing more than 100 carats each have been recovered year-to-date from the processing of stockpile material, according to Lucara.
“Lucara is delighted to announce the recovery of this stunning blue, high-quality diamond from the Karowe Mine, which again reinforces the special nature of this asset,” said William Lamb, president and CEO of Lucara.
“Recoveries such as this demonstrate the value contained within [Lucara’s] surface stockpiles, which remain an important source of mill feed and a contributor to ongoing diamond recoveries."
The Karowe Mine has been in production since 2012.
The miner is transitioning from open pit to underground mining at the site with the development of the Karowe Underground Project (UGP), which is designed to access the highest value portion of the Karowe orebody.
According to the miner’s 2025 year-end results, it is expected to extend the mine life to 2038.
Underground development ore from the UGP is scheduled to begin offsetting stockpiles in 2027.
Full-scale underground production is planned for the first half of 2028.
Another notable blue diamond was recovered earlier this year at the Cullinan Mine in nearby South Africa. Petra Diamonds announced the 42-carat find in January.
