Bailey’s Fine Jewelry Acquires Fellow NC Independent Jeweler
The family-owned retailer is the new owner of Morrison Smith Jewelers in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Bailey’s Fine Jewelry has locations in the North Carolina cities of Raleigh, Rocky Mount, Cary, and Greenville, and will expand to Charlotte with this new acquisition.
It also operates a by-appointment-only studio in Los Angeles and the Fox & Bailey Watch Shop in Raleigh.
Bailey’s said it has taken over operations and is working with the team at Morrison Smith to ensure a smooth transition over the coming months.
The store eventually will take the Bailey’s name, a company spokesperson said.
The price of the acquisition is not being disclosed.
“The acquisition is more than just a business move; it’s the merging of two deeply rooted, family-owned jewelers with a shared history and values,” Bailey’s said.

The Smith and Bailey families have had a connection for generations.
Charles Smith, the father of former Morrison Smith President Chuck Smith, was a mentor to Clyde Bailey, the father of Bailey’s Fine Jewelry president and third-generation owner, Trey Bailey.
“The relationship between the two families has spanned decades, making this transition a natural and meaningful evolution,” said Bailey’s.
Morrison Smith has been serving the Charlotte community for more than 70 years.
“A decision like this is not one that’s taken lightly,” said Chuck Smith of Morrison Smith Jewelers.
“It was extremely important to us that we found a company that aligned with our family values and dedication to exceptional customer service. The parallels between Morrison Smith and Bailey’s are numerous and we knew it would be a great fit for everyone.”
Bailey’s Fine Jewelry President Trey Bailey noted that Morrison Smith Jewelers is “synonymous with quality and excellence in the Charlotte market.”
“It’s such a well-respected and well-run business and we look forward to continuing that legacy while bringing the Bailey’s experience to Charlotte,” he said.
Bailey’s will continue to offer Morrison Smith’s repair and custom design services while also expanding its assortment of bridal and designer jewelry.
The retailer is planning an official grand opening and other events later this year.
Bailey’s was founded in 1948 by Clyde Sr. and Ann Bailey.
The jeweler now operates eight locations, including seven in North Carolina and one studio in Los Angeles.
