Susan Eisen and Gail Brett Levine sit down with National Jeweler’s Michelle Graff and Susan Posnock of Jewelers of America to talk about the challenges lab-grown diamonds have created for jewelry appraisers.
Lab-grown diamonds present myriad challenges for jewelry appraisers, from extra instruments, additional time and cost, and uncomfortable conversations when customers find out their diamond is not what they thought it was.
On the latest episode of “My Next Question,” held Oct. 15, Susan Eisen, owner of Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry and Watches in Texas, and National Association of Jewelry Appraisers Executive Director Gail Brett Levine joined National Jeweler and Jewelers of America to discuss these challenges.
Eisen and Levine talked about the instruments they’ve added to their appraising repertoire since lab-grown diamonds hit the market in mass, how much consumers seem to know about the stones, and why some appraisers avoid assessing lab-grown diamonds, if they can help it.
