Piece of the Week: K. Brunini Jewels’ Butterfly Ring
Fly away with designer Katey Brunini’s butterfly ring, as its spring-loaded wings flutter above your fingers.

The name of the ring is “パッションフルーツ,” which is Japanese for "passion flower."
When the pink tourmaline wings of this butterfly ring are touched, they begin to flutter, mimicking a real butterfly moving above its wearer’s fingers.
Designer Katey Brunini was able to include an “en tremblant,” or “to tremble,” feature in her piece by fastening a spring to the wings, giving them movement.
Brunini, whose is known for “creating fine jewelry that embodies the power and grace of nature,” according to the brand, sourced the materials for this piece while spelunking in Germany and Australia.
She used 124.29-carats of carved pink tourmaline for the wings, a 13.72-carat abstract Jundah opal for the body, a 1.07-carat peach sapphire for the head, and 0.04-carats of fancy yellow diamonds for the tips of the antennas, along with sterling silver and 18-karat rose and yellow gold.
The ring is part of Brunini’s new “Bow” collection and is featured on the cover of her new book of the same name.
While this piece is not for sale, more than 20 pieces from the Bow collection are available on the K. Brunini Jewels website.
