Mouawad’s new Miss Universe crown is a symbolic representation of historic changes to the pageant organization, the jewelry brand said.
New York—It’s not a beauty pageant without a crown and Mouawad has delivered for the upcoming Miss Universe competition.

The fourth-generation jewelry brand headquartered in Geneva and Dubai has released a sneak peek of the crown that is up for grabs at this year’s competition, scheduled for Jan. 14 in New Orleans.

Dubbed the “Force for Good” crown, it features 48.12 carats of diamonds and 108.44 carats of sapphires.

The largest stone is a pear-shaped sapphire weighing 45.14 carats positioned at the crown’s apex.

Overall, the design resembles a feather in an aigrette.

Mouawad said it is valued at $5.75 million.

The brand explained the crown begins with white diamonds at the base and gradually gives way to blue sapphires to represent a wave of change in the Miss Universe organization.

This is a nod to the fact that the organization is now owned by a woman for the first time, as announced last year.

The 2022 competition (happening in 2023) will be the first under the leadership of Thai business mogul Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip and her company, JKN Global Group.

Previously, IMG Worldwide owned the Miss Universe organization. Prior to that, former President Donald Trump was famously part owner of the organization.

Mouawad began collaborating with the organization in 2019. In the past three years, winners have worn the brand’s “Power of Unity” crown.

The new “Force for Good” crown, “evokes the Miss Universe Organization’s belief in a future forged by women who push the limits of what’s possible and the incredible women from around the world who advocate for positive change,” Fred Mouawad, part of the brand’s fourth generation, told National Jeweler.

He said the partnership with Miss Universe beginning in 2019 was “a natural fit that leveraged our expertise and renown in crafting exceptional pieces for royalty.”

The new crown was created specifically to reflect the symbolism of the organization’s new guard.

“Reflecting the point that significant change does not happen in an instant, the base of the crown is set with diamonds symbolizing the status quo,” Mouawad explained.

“From the base upwards, rippling wave motifs reflect the momentum of change, with their varying sizes portraying that this momentum gains ground gradually through advocacy at different moments and places, to audiences large and small, over time.”

The crown will be on view at the 71st annual Miss Universe pageant.
