PGI USA Set to Close at Year’s End
The closure is part of a global restructuring that also includes PGI winding down its operations in Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.

PGI USA President Jenny Luker confirmed the closure of PGI USA to National Jeweler via email on Thursday, sharing a statement that reads in part: “Platinum Guild International is evolving its operating model to focus on resources where they can generate the greatest sustainable platinum jewelry demand and industry value.”
PGI USA, as well as PGI South Korea, will cease operations on Dec. 31 while the office in Japan will shut down on Dec. 30.
Operations at PGI Central, located in Hong Kong, are in the process of winding down.
The Platinum Guild will keep its offices in China and India, and despite the pared-down presence, the organization said it remains committed to promoting platinum jewelry globally, including in established markets like the United States and Japan.
“This transition reflects a change in operating structure, not a change in confidence in these markets,” the statement reads.
“PGI will continue to support the global industry through its education platforms, technical expertise, market intelligence, standards leadership and industry partnerships, while retaining the flexibility to collaborate on high-impact opportunities wherever they emerge.”
Based in New York, PGI USA opened in 1992.
It promoted platinum to consumers for bridal and, later, for everyday jewelry through the Platinum Born collection, which is distributed by Suna Bros.
When asked about the future of Platinum Born, a PGI spokesperson said: “PGI is working with our distributor to ensure a seamless transition for Platinum Born.
“There will be no production disruptions, and PGI USA will continue to provide marketing materials and assets through the holiday season. We will have more detailed information to share in the coming weeks.”
PGI USA also supported the trade with marketing, designs, and education.
Luker will remain with PGI USA through the end of the year.
Kevin Reilly, PGI USA’s longtime senior vice president, retired earlier this year after 20 years with the organization.
