Illuminating Carved Paraiba Pendant, Suite of Moonstones Wow at Spectrum Awards
Spectrum’s “Best of Show” honors went to a 101-carat Paraiba carved to look like Medusa that has a magnet-activated LED light.

Judging took place Oct. 23-25 at the Omni Frisco Hotel at the Star in Dallas.
There were approximately 400 entries, a 21 percent increase from last year.
A total of 16 percent of entries came from first-time participants, and the number of finished jewelry entries submitted by female designers was up 33 percent.
“This substantial increase in participation is evidence of the growing popularity of natural colored gemstones,” AGTA CEO John W. Ford Sr. said. “The enthusiasm for the awards signals strong momentum for colored gems in the marketplace, a positive development for the industry as a whole.”
The 2026 AGTA Spectrum & Cutting Edge Awards judges were: Jerry Raine of Turgeon Raine; John Bachman of John M. Bachman Inc.; Yehouda Saketkhou of Yael Designs; gem dealer John J. Bradshaw; and designer Zoltan David.
Gemologists Lauren Stuller and Charles Evans were judges for the inaugural Stuller Color of the Year Award, while Reena Norville, Michelle Alfena Spector, and Ben Norville served as judges for the Alfie Norville Women in Excellence Awards.
There are also the “Platinum Honors” awards, given to one winner in each of the seven Spectrum categories, as well as the “Best Use of Platinum and Color” award, sponsored by Platinum Guild International (PGI).
Jenny Luker, president of PGI USA, was the judge for these awards.
Many of the winning pieces will be on display during the upcoming AGTA GemFair Tucson, which is set to take place Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, 2027.
Winners will be recognized at the AGTA Spectrum Gala, scheduled for Feb. 3 at the Tucson Convention Center.
