Suspects Use Bear Spray on NY Jewelry Store Employees During Robbery
Ten masked suspects stole $800,000 in merchandise from a jeweler in the Bronx.
New York—The New York Police Department is looking for a group of suspects who used bear spray during a jewelry store robbery in the Bronx.
A group of 10 masked suspects entered a jewelry store on East Fordham Road around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 10, according to the Jewelers Security Alliance.
One flashed a gun while others used bear spray to temporarily blind the six employees in the store at the time.
The remaining suspects then smashed the display cases, taking $800,000 in merchandise, police said.
The suspects also sprayed witnesses and employees of other nearby stores as they tried to get away.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact JSA at 212-687-0328 or jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org.
In December 2021, there was also an attempted smash-and-grab at a jewelry store in Upland, California, in which the suspects used bear spray on employees.
The Bronx incident, meanwhile, came just days after another nearby jewelry store was robbed.
On. Aug. 5, four men entered Rocco’s Jewelry on Webster Avenue before smashing the display cases and stealing more than $2 million in goods.
