These Were the Best Celebrity Engagement Rings of the Year

No round brilliant-cut solitaires here.

One diamond solitaire, Jennifer Lopez’s emerald-cut sparkler, made our editor’s list of the top celebrity engagement rings in 2019.
It’s easy to see why certain engagement ring styles become ultra-ubiquitous.

Classic looks such as, say, a round-brilliant cut solitaire diamond, are versatile and go with absolutely everything.

And while the details may change—like halo settings or platinum and white gold one decade versus yellow gold the next—brides generally opt for a colorless diamond on some variation of a simple shank.

But those trends are for regular people. A celebrity, on the other hand, doesn’t mind standing out.

That was certainly the case in 2019, as several newly affianced celebs demonstrated with their (or their partner’s) choice of statement engagement styles.

Here’s a look at the best of the bunch.

Town & Country Editor-in-Chief and consummate #jewelrygirl Stellene Volandes made the argument this year that by the time a bride is on her third engagement ring, she really gets it right.

Scarlett Johansson’s engagement ring, below, convincingly proves her point.

Artistic, fashion-forward, and utterly unconventional, Johansson’s Type IIa champagne-colored fancy-cut 11-carat diamond set on black ceramic band from exclusive designer James Taffin de Givenchy marks the actress’ third engagement.

This ring speaks to a woman who knows who she is; we can’t help but think that third time’s the charm for her marriage to SNL’s Colin Jost.

Center stones beyond the colorless diamond are trending for celebs, as shown by Emma Stone’s recent Kataoka pearl engagement ring reveal.

Early in the year, Katy Perry took to Instagram to show off her ring from fiancée Orlando Bloom

To support Volandes’ theory, while not her third engagement (that we know of) this isn’t Perry’s first rodeo, and the pop singer’s directional non-diamond center stone style shows confidence and a flair for the dramatic.

The cluster-style diamond halo also happens to be a style favored by British royalty. The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton (and formerly Princess Diana) has a blue sapphire version of the setting, while Princess Eugenie received a padparadscha sapphire edition last year.

This year, Middleton’s brother James popped the question to his betrothed with a colored stone engagement ring as well.

Other celebs in on the colored stone trend include comedian, actress and writer Jenny Slate who opted for an alternative bridal style in the form of a sapphire center stone to mark her 2019 engagement, and skier Lindsey Vonn who has been rocking a mega-watt emerald ahead of her nuptials to hockey player P.K. Subban. (She even proposed back
to Subban this Christmas. He has an engagement ring all his own.)

One celeb skirted the colored gemstone trend, rocking, in fact, a diamond solitaire. Any 2019 list without her over-the-top engagement ring just wouldn’t be complete.

We’re talking about Jennifer Lopez and not just any diamond solitaire.

The approximately 15-carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring marks her fifth engagement, this time to baseball legend Alex Rodriguez.

J. Lo clearly has a penchant for clean lines and major bling, as seen in her previous engagement ring styles. Her latest takes the cake in overall surface area, however, and if size equates to love, her fourth marriage will be her best yet.
