Next up on my ever-evolving jewelry wish list: diamond studs.
I've been hankering for a pair ever since reading Chanel And Her World, a book about the iconic fashion designer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel. And though one would think a girl might be inspired to throw on a triple-strand pearl necklace and a little black dress, I was more taken by a quote about Coco's view of pairing daytime outfits with lavish jewels: "Never—at any time in her life—did Gabrielle Chanel imagine that luxury could have any purpose other than to make simplicity appear remarkable."
On that sentiment, for all of those days I get out of bed too late and throw on a shift dress or an all-black ensemble—the types of looks that aren't particularly inspiring but will get me out the door—I'm looking for a pair of diamond studs to jazz things up. Though they may be a jeweler's most basic bread-and-butter item, they're also one that's conspicuously missing from my jewelry box.
Scarlett Johansson, who always looks ridiculously stunning, be it on the red carpet or fresh-faced on the New York City streets, rocked a really gorgeous pair from Van Cleef & Arpels at the Berlin Film Festival premiere of her latest film, The Other Boleyn Girl. Though drop earrings continue to reign on the red carpets, I can't help but think these "Cosmos" earclips are stealing the show.
