Gem Awards jewelry design nominees announced
Temple St. Clair, Sevan Bicakci and Caroline Scheufele are competing to win in the jewelry design category of the 2016 Gem Awards, the winners of which will be announced in January.
New York--Temple St. Clair, Sevan Bicakci and Caroline Scheufele are the nominees in the jewelry design category of the 2016 Gem Awards, which honor individuals and brands whose work raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches.
An Istanbul native who unveiled his first jewelry collection in 2002, Bicakci is known for his one-of-a-kind pieces made from high-karat gold, sterling silver, rose- or antique-cut diamonds and other uniquely cut gemstones, which he pairs with metal-based painting, engraving, calligraphy, intaglio carving (reverse gemstone carving) and micro-mosaic setting.
Scheufele, meanwhile, is the co-president and artistic director at Chopard. She introduced “Happy Diamonds” in 1985, the brand’s first jewelry line.
Jewelry design is one of four categories that comprise the Gem Awards, an annual event hosted by Jewelers of America.
The other categories are media excellence, watch design and lifetime achievement. The nominees in the media and watch categories will be announced at a later date, as will the recipient of the lifetime achievement award, JA said.
The winners will be announced live at the Gem Awards ceremony, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 8 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.
Tickets for the Gem Awards, as well as sponsorship and advertising opportunities, are available for purchase on the JA website.
