Antiquorum to auction five-star general’s watch
Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s Jaeger-LeCoultre could fetch up to $21,000 at the auction house’s May 10 sale in Geneva.
Geneva--A Jaeger-LeCoultre wristwatch that belonged to Gen. Douglas MacArthur, the American general known for his service in the Pacific theater during World War II, could fetch up to $21,000 next week in Geneva.
The circa 1935 Ref. 201 Early Steel Reverso was sold by Golay Fils & Stahl and consigned by MacArthur’s descendants. It is accompanied by a letter attesting to its provenance, and will be offered at Antiquorum’s May 10 sale of Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces in Geneva.
Expected to top the auction is a Patek Philippe. Ref. 2499/100 Fourth Series, considered one of the most iconic models ever produced by the brand. Made circa 1980, the very fine and rare 18-karat yellow gold wristwatch features round-button chronograph and 30-minute register, and is expected to sell for nearly $535,000.
Wrist and pocket watches from Rolex, Vacheron Constantin and Louis Audemars also will be included in the sale. A complete list of lots can be found on the Antiquorum website.
