Jaeger-LeCoultre Celebrates New Watch with an App
The Swiss watchmaker has created a digital alarm app to commemorate the 60th anniversary of its first alarm watch.

New York--Jaeger-LeCoultre fans interested in owning their very own piece of the Swiss luxury timepiece brand without plunking down a dime are in luck; the company’s new alarm app is free.
Available for Android and iPhones, the Wake-Up Memovox is a digital recreation of the new Master Memovox Boutique Edition timepiece.
Released in November 2016, the Master Memovox Boutique Edition celebrates the 60-year anniversary of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s first alarm watch.
Introduced in 1956, the Memovox was a symbol of a recovering Europe post-World War II, a time in which the Memovox’s functionality was an aid for career-oriented men participating in rebounding economies.
The original Memovox timepiece featured the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 815 movement, an automatic movement with an alarm.
Today’s Boutique Edition utilizes the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 956 movement, which is “directly descended” from the 815, according to the company. Its mechanical alarm emits a “pure” sound meant to mimic classic versions of the watch.
The Boutique Edition’s design is inspired by a 1970s iteration of the Memovox, called the Memovox Snowdrop. It featured a grayish-blue dial and white luminescent “railtrack” minute circle.
These design aspects have been updated with a stainless steel case with a brushed finish and an engraved caseback. The strap is made of a dark blue braided cotton with calfskin lining.
The app recreates the exact look of the Master Memovox Boutique Edition and allows for multiple recurring alarms. Users can set the alarm by moving the watch hands with the swipe of a finger or can use a more typical digital alarm menu.
The sound of the alarm is a digitized version of the sound made by the mechanical watch.
The Wake-Up Memovox app, released on Dec. 30, is available for free download for Android, as well as for iPhones and iPads.
The Master Memovox Boutique Edition timepiece, which retails for $10,800, is available only at Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques and is limited to 500 pieces.
