The Longines Watch Inspired by Hodinkee’s Founder
Benjamin Clymer posted a picture of a Longines watch from 1945 on Instagram. Now, that same watch has been reissued.
Basel, Switzerland--One watch writer’s old timepiece has served as the inspiration for a new model from Longines.
This year at Baselworld, the brand rolled out the Longines Heritage 1945, a beige beauty Longines was inspired to make after one of its employees spotted Benjamin Clymer, founder and executive editor of Hodinkee, wearing the original version on Instagram.
Powered by the L609.3 (ETA 2895/2) automatic self-winding movement, the watch has a 42-hour power reserve, 40 mm case and brushed copper dial with six Arabic numerals and six cabochons.
Clymer wrote a piece about his connection to the watch on his website and also did a side-by-side comparison of old and new.
The Longines Heritage 1945 will retail for $1,700.
Also at the show, Longines rebooted the Conquest V.H.P. (Very High Precision), a line of quartz watches first introduced in the 1980s, and a new collection, the Record.
Conquest V.H.P. watches are available in 3 hands/calendar (41 and 43 mm) and chronograph (42 and 44 mm) versions.
ETA developed the watch’s movement, the L289.2 (ETA E57.211). It is a movement known for its precision (+/-5 s/yr) and the ability of its gear position detection system to reset the hands after an impact or coming into contact with a magnetic field.
The watches come on a stainless steel bracelet with blue, carbon, silvered or black dials.
The Record collection, meanwhile, is new for Longines.
All the pieces in the collection are powered by mechanical self-winding movements that are COSC certified, a first for the brand.
It is a collection with models for both men and women, with case sizes ranging from 26 to 40 mm. The 26 and 30 mm versions have a lower power reserve (40 hours) as compared with the two larger sizes, 38.5 and 40 mm (64 hours).
There are seven different dial designs for women and six for men, and the watches are available on a stainless steel bracelet or alligator strap.
