JVC Hires New Assistant Counsel
Miya Owens joins the organization after working at Morgan Stanley and as a litigator at New York law firm Jacobs & Burleigh.
New York--The Jewelers Vigilance Committee announced Wednesday that it has hired a new assistant counsel to replace Sara Yood, who recently was promoted to senior counsel.
Miya Owens joins the JVC after working as a legal and compliance consultant at Morgan Stanley and a litigation associate at New York law firm Jacobs & Burleigh.
Owens is a graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, the law school at New York’s Yeshiva University and CUNY Baruch College.
As assistant counsel, she will support the work of the JVC legal department and primarily will engage in mediation work, helping to resolve the nearly 300 cases the JVC undertakes each year.
In addition, Owens will perform legal research and answer member questions regarding compliance obligations.
Owens joins the firm as Yood moves up to replace Suzan Flamm, who left the organization earlier this year, and as the JVC looks to hire a new president and CEO to replace Cecilia Gardner, who will step down next year.
Gardner said of Owens’ hiring that her “unique skill set matched our needs perfectly.”
