Swarovski to Unveil Lab-Grown Diamond Line at the Oscars
This is the first lab-grown diamond line by the Austrian company, which is known for its crystals.

Los Angeles--Swarovski, the Austrian crystal company that’s been in business since 1895, will debut its new line of jewelry set with lab-grown diamonds at the 89th annual Academy Awards this Sunday.
The line will launch under the Atelier Swarovski umbrella, or what has historically been the company’s more fashion-forward jewelry division, collaborating with clothing designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Peter Pilotto in the past.
The Atelier Swarovski fine jewelry collection is part of the Red Carpet Green Dress Initiative, which was founded by Suzy Amis Cameron (wife of “Titanic” and “Avatar” director James Cameron) and facilitates and promotes sustainable design practices. The collection will feature a combination of Swarovski-grown crystals and lab-grown diamonds.
Swarovski lab-grown diamonds are created in a “state-of-the-art laboratory,” the company said, though they declined to disclose their current production capacity to National Jeweler.
Swarovski said that their fine jewelry offerings will continue to play a role on red carpets for the rest of the year before some variations of the designs will be available for purchase in 2018.
In addition, this year will mark the 10th year that Swarovski is supplying crystals to the Oscars’ set design.
This year, the company said they are working in conjunction with production designer Derek McLane. The Oscars stage will feature more than 300,000 Swarovski crystals.
Swarovski has contributed its crystals to many iconic films in the past, such as “The Wizard of Oz” and “Moulin Rouge.”
