Seattle--Online giant Amazon Inc. recently released its list of America’s most romantic cities, an annual inventory of the metropolitan areas where residents ordered the most love-related books, movies and music over the past year.
While Knoxville, Tenn. has reigned supreme for the past two years, a city new to the list took the top spot this year: San Antonio, Texas.
Amazon.com’s home city of Seattle, which hasn’t cracked the top 20 since 2010, came in at the No. 2 spot, giving the city another reason to celebrate in addition to its recent Super Bowl victory.
In the No. 3 spot was Knoxville, which didn’t fall off the list entirely, followed by Miami and Alexandria, Va. Rounding out the top 10 were Orlando, Vancouver, Wash., Cincinnati, Spokane, Wash., and Dayton, Ohio.
Amazon compiles its annual most romantic cities lists by compiling sales data of romance novels and relationship books, both Kindle and print; romantic comedy movies, both digital and DVDs; CDs and MP3s of romantic music by artists including Dean Martin, Barry White, Luther Vandross and Maxwell and Miguel; and sales of sexual wellness products.
Rounding out the list were Columbia, S.C. at No. 11, followed by San Jose, Calif., Murfreesboro, Tenn., Round Rock, Texas, Sioux City, S.D., Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Everett, Wash., Erie, Pa. and Clearwater, Fla.
In addition to San Antonio and Seattle, Spokane, San Jose and Sioux City were not on the list last year, while Washington reigned as the state with the most municipalities on the list at four.
Amazon.com also can use its sales data to pinpoint what cities in the country are least in the mood for amore, and they were New York and two California cities, San Buenaventura and El Monte.
