Facebook #Fail: Thieves Arrested After Social Blunder
A video posted on social media helped police in south Florida arrest two suspects in connection with the theft of more than $500,000 in jewelry.
Pinecrest, Fla.--It’s a lesson in Facebook Live 101: The videos you post are indeed public.
Two Florida men learned this the hard way after police used a video posted on Facebook Live to help arrest and charge the men with two separate thefts, according to the Miami Herald.
Raderius Glenn Collins, 18 and Marcus Terrell Parker, 27, were arrested for allegedly breaking into two homes in the Miami suburb of Pinecrest and stealing a safe from one of them, which contained more than half a million dollars in jewelry.
In the video, the men can be seen showing off wads of cash. At one point they say, “We got a safe.”
Much of the stolen jewelry was recovered from a store in a nearby mall where suspects had reportedly sold it for a profit of $1,300 each, the Herald reported. This was a small fraction of its value, a fact that upset Collins, according to the arrest affidavit.
So far, Collins has pleaded not guilty to seven felony charges stemming from the robberies.
Police are still looking for the third suspect in the video.
