Piece of the Week: AnaKatarina’s ‘Pretty Little Secrets’ Ring
It’s a sweet take on a classic poison ring.
Autumn is on the horizon, and with it, spooky season.
One of the creepiest jewels in history has to be a poison ring, or a ring with a secret compartment that has appeared throughout history.
Per GIA, one of the style’s earliest mentions pops up in Ancient Rome, when a Roman government official ingested poison from his ring to avoid torture, according to records from historian Pliny, the Elder.
AnaKatarina has a less sinister intention for her new “Pretty Little Secrets” ring, this week’s “Piece of the Week.”

In the vein of a locket, AnaKatarina’s “Pretty Little Secrets” ring contains a hidden compartment.
AnaKatarina jewels are inscribed with positive messages meant to rest against the skin, imbuing the wearer with their meaning.
“I wanted a ring with a secret compartment to keep or hide a memory,” said designer Ana-Katarina Vinkler-Petrovic, “whether it be a token, a photograph, a dried flower, or a lock of hair.”
Crafted in 18-karat gold and accented with enamel and AnaKatarina’s signature inverted diamonds, the lid is comprised of rock crystal over pink mother-of-pearl.
The secret inside, whether sentimental or spooky, is up to the wearer.
