Experience is the Best Teacher
Whatever the topic or focus on study, it is no secret that experience is the best way to learn. Each facet of the diamond industry is ever evolving and ever-changing, deeply rooted in history and balancing deeply scientific knowledge with the emotion that drives the consumer. De Beers is now sharing its over 130 years of experience and expertise through the De Beers Institute of Diamonds, adding Education to the range of services offered.
With our unique position in the world of diamonds through our involvement in every stage of the diamond pipeline; from exploration and mining through to the sale of diamond jewelry, the De Beers Institute of Diamonds has called upon the experts in each of these areas to develop courses and educational materials. This valuable resource is now available to anyone interested in beginning or expanding their diamond knowledge.
Knowledge As You Need It
Welcoming fresh faces to our industry and offering courses to keep current industry leaders sharp, our array of courses provide participants with the opportunity to refresh their skills, learn something new, or even just test their knowledge across the entire diamond pipeline.
Teaching methods range from course to course. Some are laboratory based, while others are administered via distance learning – or a blend of both approaches, designed to give the best learning experience possible. If you are looking to strengthen your team, empower your sales force with confidence, or are looking to become an “expert consumer”, each course is designed to challenge and empower students. E-learning is self-paced and can be completed over a matter of months, while in-person courses can be joined through already established locations or arranged for bespoke events.
Our Current Courses
Introduction to Diamonds - This fundamental e-learning course is designed for anyone with an interest in developing or refreshing their understanding of the diamond pipeline and is internationally accredited, as are all of our courses.
Diamond Foundation Course – This advanced e-learning entry course allows participants to extend their knowledge of diamonds beyond the 4Cs, drawing on insights from the full spectrum of the diamond pipeline.
Introduction to the 4Cs - This full day, in-person, provides invaluable hands-on experience in grading, covering each of the 4Cs. By the end of the workshop students will be able to handle diamonds confidently and complete top line assessments of each of the 4Cs.
Synthetic Diamond Detection Course - This one-day program supports De Beers' efforts to enhance customer confidence throughout the trade and is delivered by tutors from the De Beers Group Research Facility. It focuses on understanding the detailed differences between natural diamonds and their synthetic counterparts.
We push the industry forward when we push ourselves forward and the De Beers Institute of Diamonds is committed to being a partner in both. Our experts are constantly learning and exploring, and it is our promise to continually share our knowledge for the benefit of the industry and each member that make it a beautiful place to be.
