CGA Calling for Entries for Student Jewelry Design Competition
Now in its third year, the competition for emerging jewelry designers in Canada offers cash prizes.
Peter van Walraven, a 2019 graduate of Georgian College in Canada, won the CGA’s student jewelry design competition last year. He placed first with this neckpiece called “Metal Stone and Crystal.”
Toronto—The Canadian Gemmological Association (CGA) is calling for entries for the 2021 edition of its student jewelry design competition.
Now in its third year, the competition recognizes emerging design talent in Canada, with cash prizes awarded to the creators of the top three entries.
The designer of the first-place entry will receive CA$1,000, the second-place entry receives CA$500, and the third-place winner receives CA$250.
The competition is open to all students currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary jewelry design or metalsmithing program, as well as those who have graduated from such a program in 2019, 2020 or will graduate in 2021.
Only one entry is allowed per designer.
The deadline to enter is June 30.

“We think it is so important to showcase the best and brightest in Canada,” said CGA President Donna Hawrelko.
“We have some amazing talent and we are fortunate enough to be able to offer this competition again this year, despite the pandemic. We encourage all student designers to come forward so that we can put the spotlight on their innovative ideas and brilliant craftmanship.”
Winners will be announced, recognized, and receive their prizes at the CGA’s annual conference later this year, tentatively scheduled for Oct. 22-24 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
