Gemvision campaigns against software piracy

Davenport, Iowa--Gemvision is pioneering a campaign to identify and take action against the unauthorized use of its software products, including its Matrix and CounterSketch CAD programs.
The company said the pirated use of its software is occurring in jewelry centers in the United States, Europe and Asia, and includes downloading, uploading and distribution.
“We are committed to protecting our customer’s investment. Our technological prowess combined with tenacity will be used to locate, identify and take action against companies and individuals using illegal versions of our software,” Gemvision Vice President Christopher Burger said.
Using pirated software is not only illegal but misses the intrinsic value of the properly licensed product, Gemvision said.
Licensed software users not only have access to a fully-functioning program free of viruses, but access to technical support and training as well as the Gemvision users’ forum. Upgrades, service releases and software patches also are only available to legitimate customers.
In addition, pirated software lacks manuals or other expected documentation accompanying the product and can be of poor quality, Gemvision said.
“The use of pirated software harms the industry as a whole,” the company said. “It results in a higher cost to honorable buyers much like the cost of shoplifting filters down to honest shoppers. It also discourages economic growth and technical innovation due to the high costs associated with loss prevention.”
International government agencies and private investigators have helped to execute successful raids, which has encouraged Gemvision to expand its anti-piracy efforts. It has also identified and taken action against unauthorized websites offering illegal downloads.
Gemvision said it is willing to grant amnesty to companies who agree to purchase licensed software to replace pirated versions they are currently using. Additional information and a form for reporting violations can be found here.
