Scott Kay, FIT Partner for Jewelry Design Contest
Second-year jewelry design students at the Fashion Institute of Technology will design a bridal jewelry set to honor the brand’s founding designer.
New York--Scott Kay and the Fashion Institute of Technology are partnering on a contest for second-year jewelry design students to honor the brand’s founding designer.
The contest challenges students to design a bridal jewelry set to include three pieces from a set of four--ring, bracelet, necklace and/or earrings.
Offering the students a place to apply their studies in a professional setting, the contest will require them use their skills to build on Scott Kay’s original design codes and present hand drawings, technical drawings, measurement details, materials and color options.
It will take place during the current fall and upcoming spring semesters.
The winners of the contest will be chosen after two rounds of judging, which will be based on overall design, originality, creativity, production viability and the use of Scott Kay’s design codes.
Five finalists will present their final drawings to the judging panel at an intimate dinner event this January, where the overall winner will be announced.
The winning student will receive $3,000 as well as a trip to Las Vegas for the JCK Las Vegas and Luxury shows to display his or her winning jewelry set.
The winner also will be eligible to negotiate a separate agreement with Scott Kay, which is owned by manufacturer Frederick Goldman, to produce and sell the winning designs.
Second- and third-place winners, meanwhile, each will receive $1,000, the while fourth and fifth runners-up will receive $500 each.
“The design contest will allow FIT students to experience the realities of the jewelry industry, providing them a first-hand look into the total design process from first sketch to final conception,” Scott Kay Director of Brand Management Kelly Kahn said. “We hope students will be inspired by the artistry of Scott Kay and that the contest will encourage them to continue exploring their studies in jewelry design.”
