This week included one New York City retailer shuttering its store to go online-only and the sale of a 10.10-carat fancy vivid blue diamond in Hong Kong.
The fine jewelry auction scene was busy this week, with Bonhams announcing that it will sell a collection from an Indian royal family in London this month and a 10.10-carat fancy vivid blue diamond selling for $31.8 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong.
The Pure Earth nonprofit, meanwhile, is holding an online auction now through April 12 to raise awareness for the connection between artisanal gold mining and mercury.
There’s also been some shuffling around in the industry, as Cecilia Gardner announced she would step down as president and CEO of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee next year and the Jewelers Board of Trade named financial veteran Anthony Capuano as its president to succeed Dione Kenyon.
Meanwhile, one New York City jeweler will close its store this month as it moves to an online-only operation and Endless Jewelry gives fans the chance to see brand ambassador Jennifer Lopez live in Las Vegas.

The Jewelers Board of Trade announced Wednesday that its board of directors appointed financial executive Anthony Capuano, who has more than 35 years’ experience in credit and lending, as its president. Read more here.

The 10.10-carat De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 blue diamond, one of the dozen rare diamonds De Beers assembled to mark the year 2000, sold for $31.8 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on Tuesday, making it the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction in Asia. Read more here.
