Paul Morelli’s Latest ‘Wavey Vine’ Earrings Embrace Color
The reimagined jewel, our Piece of the Week, trades the diamonds in the original 1998 design for blue, pink, yellow, and green sapphires.
Paul Morelli has brought his “Wavey Vine” collection back, and this time it is in color.
The new three-piece Wavey Vine set includes a necklace, bracelet, and our Piece of the Week—a pair of earrings.
Morelli debuted his first Wavey Vine design in 1998, using white diamonds.
The new release features blue, pink, yellow, and green marquise-cut sapphires set in platinum, though white diamond pavé does still make an appearance.
“The vintage version of this collection is one of my favorites, and it was so fun to punch it up,” said Morelli.
“When we first designed it, the focus was on this delicate, polite simplicity. This time around, we wanted more weight and more texture. We traded the quiet details for heavy stone work and a real collision of colored sapphires. It’s a much bolder, more grown-up interpretation of the original line.”
When Morelli first designed the collection, he looked to the Art Nouveau movement, aiming to capture the beauty of nature in motion through flowing curves, asymmetrical forms, and botanical motifs.
The brand chose sapphires of various colors for the reimagined design because colored gemstones have become a powerful expression of individuality, it said.
It reported a growing appeal for colored sapphires beyond the traditional blue and said that collectors are embracing pieces that feel expressive, personal, and connected to craftsmanship.
The Wavey Vine earrings retail for $20,000 and are available exclusively at the Paul Morelli flagship on Madison Avenue in New York City.
