TAG’s Smartwatch No Longer Being Sold Online
Due to “high demand,” TAG Heuer has quit selling the Connected online and is instead directing consumers to retail stores to purchase its new smartwatch.
La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland--Due to “high demand,” TAG Heuer has quit selling the Connected online and is instead directing consumers to retail stores to purchase its new smartwatch.
Bloomberg reported the shift in the watch’s distribution earlier this week and a note on the Connected website confirms that the smartwatch is no longer available for online purchase.
“Due to high demand, the Connected Watch is out of stock,” the website states. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”
The note goes on to direct consumers to a store locator for both TAG Heuer boutiques and authorized TAG dealers, and has a space for people to enter their email addresses if they want to be contacted when the Connected is again available for online purchase.
TAG Heuer introduced the Connected, the company’s first smartwatch and the Swiss watchmaker’s answer to Apple Watch, at an event held in November in New York. The $1,500, 46 mm timepiece is modeled after the brand’s classic Carrera model and was developed in partnership with Google and Intel.
This week, Jean-Claude Biver told Bloomberg that online sales would remain suspended until May or June to give priority to physical stores selling the smartwatch.
He also said that TAG Heuer is increasing production of the Connected from 1,200 to 2,000 units a week in order to keep up with demand, and added that in the future, TAG could develop a model made in gold and set with diamonds.
