‘EBay Authenticate’ Expands to Fine Jewelry
More than 45,000 pieces of diamond and gemstone jewelry verified by third-party professionals are now available on the marketplace.

San Jose, Calif.—EBay Authenticate will now include the fine jewelry category.
The online marketplace announced Tuesday it will expand the program—initially launched for luxury handbags in 2017, followed by luxury watches this fall—to offer shoppers more than 45,000 pieces of diamond and gemstone jewelry verified by professional authenticators.
The authenticated jewelry items include engagement rings, wedding bands, loose diamonds and gemstones, and other fine, vintage and fashion jewelry, ranging in price from $250 to more than $20,000.
According to an eBay spokesperson, only “Top Rated Sellers” who have been pre-vetted and have their jewelry certified by select gemological laboratories can currently sell jewelry through the eBay Authenticate service.
The same goes, almost, for watches: only Top Rated Sellers who have been vetted by independent experts can sell through the eBay Authenticate service.
The spokesperson also confirmed that the pre-approved eBay Top Rated Sellers are responsible for handling the authentication costs from the certified laboratories themselves.
To celebrate the fine jewelry launch, the marketplace is offering a number of special deals and discounts on select authenticated jewelry pieces, including 2-carat round-cut diamond hoop earrings in 14-karat white gold for $999.99, an 8.55-carat diamond bracelet in 14-karat white gold for $6,999.99 and 1/2-carat diamond stud earrings in 14-karat white gold for $319.99.
EBay said 50,000 jewelry items are sold per day on the site, with one diamond ring being sold per minute.
