Mignon Faget Commemorates 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina
The New Orleans-based brand’s “Beyond Katrina” jewels honor the communities affected by the storm.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the devastating hurricane that was a profound moment of loss for the Gulf Coast. It struck in August 2005, taking nearly 1,400 lives and became the costliest natural disaster in United States history, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica.
In remembrance of the storm’s impact, Mignon Faget has designed a symbol that serves as both a tribute and a talisman to honor the past while looking forward to the future with grace and strength, it said.
The “Beyond Katrina” pendant and pin feature design elements from Mignon Faget’s “Legacy” collection, which looks to New Orleans for inspiration, including architectural motifs, fleur-de-lis forms, and organic curves reminiscent of wrought iron and Gulf Coast flora.
“These elements are artistically intertwined, much like Katrina itself has become interwoven into the collective memory and identity of the community,” said Mignon Faget.
The 55-year-old brand, which is based in New Orleans, is reflecting on the two decades of recovery, strength, and unbreakable bonds that formed in Katrina’s wake as it endured the storm alongside the city.
It has always looked to its hometown city for design influence, from the wrought iron balconies to the starry night sky.
While 20 years have passed since Hurricane Katrina, Mignon Faget said its tribute design is a way to remember the significance the storm had on the community and to stand as a reminder that they have collectively moved beyond the devastation and into a new era of rebirth.
The Beyond Katrina pendant and pin are available in 14-karat yellow gold and sterling silver.
The pieces retail from $80 to $826 and are available in-store and on the Mignon Faget website.
