Neiman Marcus’ Dallas Flagship Will Remain Open, For Now
Parent company Saks Global said the iconic location will be open through the holiday season as it decides what to do with the space.

The iconic location, a 111-year-old Dallas landmark, was set to close on March 31 following a dispute with a landlord.
The retailer’s February announcement that it would close the store prompted outcry from community leaders and officials, who formed The Dallas Consortium for The Downtown Neiman Marcus.
The group’s efforts to keep the store open included a lease negotiation with one of the landlords, but, until recently, it seemed the store would shut down for good.
However, on March 28, days before the location was set to close, Saks Global announced via a press release that the store would remain open through the holiday season while it “explores a reimagination” of the space alongside the City of Dallas.
The store’s Zodiac Room restaurant and bridal salon will remain open during this time too.
City officials met with Saks Global leadership to discuss the idea of a new format for the store that would serve the community and support the resurgence of the downtown area.
Potential ideas include a luxury retail experience, an art exhibition, a fashion and event center, and an incubator for fashion design and manufacturing.
“We deeply admire the city's passion and unwavering dedication to Neiman Marcus’ storied legacy in Dallas. The potential reimagination of this iconic shopping destination reinforces Saks Global’s commitment to redefining the luxury shopping experience,” Saks Global CEO Marc Metrick said.
“As we explore opportunities for the downtown store, along with the planned renovation at the NorthPark store, we will evaluate the opportunity to utilize both locations to serve different customer needs in the Dallas market.”
The retailer is planning a $100 million renovation of its NorthPark store, also located in Dallas.
Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert said the city will continue its discussions with Saks Global.
“We are excited that Saks Global has decided to keep Neiman Marcus open downtown, as we explore the opportunity to unlock the potential to transform downtown into an international beacon and economic engine for fashion, just as the Neiman Marcus founders intended when they opened the store more than 100 years ago,” she said.
Dallas is Neiman Marcus’ home base and a top market for its brand, according to the retailer.
Founders Herbert Marcus, his sister Carrie Marcus Neiman, and her husband, A.L. Neiman, established the company in downtown Dallas in 1907. A fire destroyed the original location in 1913, and the current store was built in 1914.
“Since 1907, Neiman Marcus has shaped the city’s fashion landscape while fostering deep connections through charitable giving, cultural contributions, and civic engagement. Saks Global remains deeply committed to Dallas, honoring its rich history while continually looking ahead to a vibrant future,” said Saks Global.
Last year, Saks Global acquired Neiman Marcus Group, which owns Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. Its portfolio also includes Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks Off 5th.
