30-Carat Pink Diamond Fetches $2.6M at Bonhams
The Type IIa, very light pink colored diamond was the highlight of the recent Hong Kong jewelry auction.

The 30.10-carat, VVS2 loose stone sold for $2.6 million (or $87,163 per carat) against an estimate of $1.5 million to $2.3 million.
The rare diamond, pictured at the top of the article, is a Type IIa, meaning it is chemically pure, and features a round brilliant cut, which, due to its high percentage of waste, is not typically chosen for colored diamonds.
It was offered from the property of a prestigious Asian collector, where it was kept in the same private collection for more than 50 years.
Other fancy colored diamond pieces also did well at the sale.
A three-stone ring featuring a fancy pink diamond, fancy deep yellow diamond, and fancy intense yellow-green diamond, sold for HK$2.5 million ($326,852 at current exchange rates), more than four times its estimate of HK$600,000 to $1.2 million ($77,088 to $154,175).
The 160-lot jewelry auction, which occurred as part of Bonham’s inaugural sales at its new Asia headquarters, took place on Nov. 28 and achieved HK$69 million ($8.9 million).
"We are absolutely delighted with the sale results, which reflect the quality of the pieces offered and the continued strong demand for colored diamonds and gemstones,” said Stewart Young, Bonhams director of jewellery and head of jewellery, Asia.
“Particularly noteworthy is the outstanding result achieved for the exceptional 30.10-carat very light pink round brilliant-cut diamond, a true rarity in carat weight, color, and cut. It was exciting to present the remarkable colored diamond at auction.”
Other highlights included the sale of colored gemstones and finished jewelry.
A Kat Florence pendant necklace featuring a 126.25-carat Paraíba-type tourmaline and 16.28 carats of pavé-set diamonds garnered 22 bids, selling for HK$4.2 million ($538,971), outshining the high-end of its pre-sale estimate of HK$2.5 million ($321,200).
Another pendant necklace featuring a 135.90-carat emerald and a 5.01-carat diamond sold for HK$2.3 million ($294,218), more than four times its high estimate of HK$500,000 ($64,240).
Eight pieces from Cartier achieved a combined total of HK$1.2 million ($147,751).
The group was led by a pair of diamond “Habana” earrings, which sold for HK$358,400 ($46,047).

The full results of the sale are available on Bonhams’ website.
