Piece of the Week: Pippa Small’s Tourmaline Necklace
Named for a Greek goddess, the colorful piece conveys both power and playfulness.
The rare beauty of precious stones like vivid red rubies and verdant emeralds can hardly be overstated, but there is something enchanting about gemstones that are naturally occurring in a wide range of colors.
Jewelry designer Pippa Small’s newest collection is a celebration of one of those magical stones: tourmaline, which she calls “the princess of gems.”
While some pieces in the collection center one color, the “Iris Fringe” necklace presents 14 gemstones in various shades and shapes of pink and green.
Hand cut in Jaipur, India, the Brazilian stones are set in 18-karat gold and are arranged as drops on a simple 18-karat gold chain necklace that, rightfully so, draws all the attention to the gems.
An ode to the beauty of nature’s palettes, what better muse for the “Iris” collection than the Greek goddess of rainbows?
Iris is also the messenger of the gods who answers prayers and wishes, bringing a sentiment of power to this playful piece.
The necklace ($20,310) launches on Pippa Small’s website on Feb. 3.
