Shane Co, Kids in Need Foundation to Donate 6,000 Backpacks
Volunteers will fill them with back-to-school essentials for students in under-resourced schools.
The charity donates backpacks filled with school essentials for children in under-resourced schools, furthering its mission of providing each child in America with equal opportunity and access to a quality education.
Throughout the month of August, employees from the family-owned, fourth-generation jeweler’s 21 locations will use paid volunteer days to fill backpacks and teacher totes with school essentials, like notebooks, pencils, and pens.
“This program is something we look forward to every year because it is a tangible and meaningful way for us to connect and give back to the communities we serve,” said Rordan Shane, president and CEO of Shane Co.
“It is truly incredible to be part of such a remarkable program. Knowing that we’re able to be part of a student’s school year to help them succeed is amazing.”
The funds for the backpacks and supplies stem from the company’s recent $150,000 donation, as well as an additional $15,000 from its customer giving program.
“We are grateful for Shane Co.’s continued dedication to creating equitable learning environments through its partnership with Kids in Need Foundation,” said the foundation’s CEO, Corey Gordon.
“Each year, they’ve increased employee and customer engagement in making a difference in their respective communities and inspired a collective passion within their organization for our mission. We appreciate the commitment Shane Co. has made to under-resourced teachers and students in their hometowns.”
The company will donate 6,000 filled backpacks across 21 schools in 13 states, serving 250 classrooms.
The company said the partnership’s goal is to create more equitable learning environments,
support schools where BIPOC students make up the majority, and make sure the students have the proper tools to learn and the teachers have the resources to teach.
“Absenteeism, coupled with teacher attrition, are more prevalent in underserved communities. These factors create an opportunity gap with lifetime repercussions,” said the company.
