Dayton, Ohio--Fred Weber of Weber Jewelers was recognized in a unique way Wednesday, when Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley deemed Jan. 8, 2014 “Fred Weber Day.”
The Ohio city honored Weber for his significant service to the Dayton community, where Weber Jewelers is located. The day was marked with a champagne reception at the jewelry store and a special commendation from the American Gem Society.
Weber is retiring from Weber Jewelers after almost 60 years at the company, which is a third-generation, family-owned and -operated business.
A member of the AGS, Weber Jewelers carries brands including Oscar Heyman, Kwiat and Lazare Kaplan, as well as one-of-a-kind estate and vintage jewelry and custom design.
In addition to his role at the jewelry store, Weber served as city commissioner from 1974 to 1978 and has continued to be involved in boards and committees concerning Dayton, including the Greater Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Dayton Revenue Advisors.
He also served as the chairman of Wright State University’s board of trustees, and in 2012 was recognized by the AGS with the Robert M. Shipley Award for his commitment to his community, business, the jewelry industry and participation in local civic groups, service organizations and industry boards.
Mayor Whaley said Weber is “an involved and outstanding member of the Greater Dayton community for 58 years, serving as a businessman, an elected official, a board member and perhaps most importantly, a friend to those in all walks of life.”
