Antique Jewelry & Art Conference Heads to Newark in July
The two-day event’s speaker list includes curators, historians, appraisers and private dealers.
The Antique Jewelry & Art Conference, slated for July 26 and 27, will kick off with an opening reception at Phillips auction house in New York.
New York—Jewelry buffs will have a summer camp of their own to attend this July as Jewelry Camp heads to the Newark Museum in New Jersey.
Also known as the Antique Jewelry & Art Conference, the event will gather industry professionals and collectors for two days of networking and education sessions.
It begins on July 26 with an opening reception at Phillips auction house in New York followed by the all-day conference on July 27 at the Newark Museum.
The event will be co-directed by Ulysses Grant Dietz, chief curator emeritus of Newark Museum, and Edward Lewand, a graduate gemologist and independent appraiser of fine and antique jewelry.
The speaker list features museum curators, art historians, appraisers and private dealers.
Amy Simon Hopwood, associate curator of decorative arts at the Newark Museum, will lead “The Stories I Can Tell You: The Newark Museum Jewelry Collection,” sharing stories about the museum’s offerings.
Bill Drucker, president of Drucker Antiques in upstate New York, will host “Georg Jensen: A Study of Scandinavian Design & Brand Identity,” a session focusing on the Danish silversmith and his design style.
A conference pass costs $575, with discounted rates available for groups, full-time students, Newark Museum patrons and members of several industry organizations, including the American Gem Society and the Women’s Jewelry Association.
An early bird rate of $475 is available for those registered by May 26.
Jewelry Camp attendees will also receive complimentary passes to the New York Antique Jewelry & Watch Show being held July 26 to 28 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan.
