Your wife would love to get a pair of diamond earrings for Mother's Day, but how would she feel if you buy your mom the exact same pair? An informal, impromptu survey of several men who are sons, husbands and fathers revealed that men have different views about gift-giving when it comes to Mother's Day. All the women in their lives adore jewelry, but you might be surprised at their thoughts on who should get what.
One self-proclaimed mama's boy said that his wife is not his mother, so he doesn't buy her a present. He didn't comment on his wife's feelings about his manner of thinking, but he did he tell me his mother collects gold cross pendants.
Another respondent expressed similar feelings. For him, Mother's Day is all about honoring his mom. He prefers to show his love and appreciation for his wife on their anniversary. On May 13th, he'll give his wife a card, but he'll make sure that his 6 and 9 year olds have something for her, too, such as a charm bracelet with the word "Mom" dangling from it.
A third respondent said without question that his wife's Mother's Day gift trumps his mom's. In general, whenever he's able to splurge, his wife is the lucky recipient. He knows she has a thing for estate jewelry, so he has to start looking now. As for mom, she'll be happy with brunch, a bouquet of flowers and knowing she raised a son who puts his family first.
Fellas, whether you're buying for one or both of your lady loves, remember the holiday is just one month away. We'd love to know what you're checking out and who you're going to give it to.
